I think I would be more inclined to do everything that allowed kitty to keep her leg. The thought of losing limbs makes me incredibly sad. Maybe the best, and really only thing you can do is to try to stay positive? I've heard (and read in one of those chicken soup for the soul books) that positivity is very important in these cases.
