So, what do I think of the post Dream Team team? Well, I have to say we sure look sloppy. To be fair, even the Dream Team looked sloppy at times but still… Last night, there were way too many turnovers, failed layups, and poor three point shooting. I know, it’s early. But if it hadn’t been for those 24 turnovers allowed by UMass we might have been unnecessarily biting our nails. OK, so what about the positives?

We look good as a team (though I have a feeling we’re really going to miss having big man Dorsey dominating the inside). We play well together. No selfish play here. It sure was nice seeing Dozier and Anderson back on the court as well as seeing more playing time from Kemp and Taggart. And, my goodness, Henderson-Niles is a tank! I looked it up, he’s 310 pounds! Of course, the asset most worthy of praise is #12. Evans will be a joy to watch this season! Sure, he might not be Derrick Rose, but who is? As good as Evans is, I’m hoping he’s more CDR good, meaning he’ll stay longer than a season.

And, let’s not forget the most meaningful thing about last night’s win. At 221 wins, Coach Cal is now the all-time leader of victories in Tigers’ history, surpassing the legendary Larry Finch! Congratulations Coach!

Should be another fun season!

Steph and Adam have gotten into doing 5Ks, so Lisa and I joined them (albeit at a slower pace) for the 21st annual Trick-or-Treat Trot. Notice that I am the only one of us who attempted any sort of costume.

Since we did the race and walked around so much downtown during their visit, we made sure to reward ourselves—not once, but twice—with some Giordano’s.

Here are some of the things we saw:

• Sam and Friends, a 5-minute show that aired daily in Washington D.C. after the news and featured a primitive non-frog Kermit and other Muppets
• Commercials for products like sausage and coffee, all of which involved a Muppet being hit over the head or blown up
• Muppets hamming it up with people on television shows including The Jimmy Dean Show and Saturday Night Live
• Pitches made by Muppets for Sesame Street and The Muppet Show

Although many of these segments are available on YouTube, there were definitely benefits of watching these clips in a theater instead of at home. We got to laugh along with a hundred other people reliving their childhoods. We got to see some things that you can’t find online (like Fozzie Bear wearing a finger puppet made of a tiny Gonzo head). And most importantly, we got to see live performances by and meet two of David Rudman’s characters: Baby Bear from Sesame Street and the amazing monster below.

Jealous much, Jennifer F, Caroline, and Steph? Seriously, I so wish that you could have been there!

I was actually driving around on the South Side around the time Obama was declared the next President of the United States. Young people were honking their car horns and screaming out “Obama” to anyone within earshot. I even saw a young black woman pull her car over to the side of the road, get out of her car, and proceed to jump up and down with excitement. When I got back home, there were fireworks going off near our neighborhood.
