I can see why you were so excited about his Memphis performance. He’s quite the showman, isn’t he? I would assume he played a similar set to the one you heard. I remember you telling me about how he played “Beast of Burden” during the encore. He did the same here but also covered Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World”. He also performed “Castanets” which he said he had refused to play for awhile since it was reported that it was on George Bush’s iPod. On his website, it shows he has a whole bunch of tour dates left, but at the end of the night at Park West, he said the band was taking time off from performing to go back into the studio to record another album. Anyway, thanks for introducing me to him. It was an amazing night at a great venue. Really, you would have been impressed by the venue’s sound.

Actually, I have been a fan of Robyn Hitchcock for quite some time. I saw him once at the New Daisy on the same bill as Sebadoh and The Flaming Lips. Apryl will be in class on the night of upcoming show so she probably won’t be able to make it, but I plan on checking it out. His backing band the Venus 3 includes Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Steve McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), and Bill Rieflin (Ministry). Tickets are being sold for $24, so I would say we made out pretty good.

Rachel and I saw a loooovely Tindersticks show there a few years back, and ate at a nice homestyle restaurant (whose name escapes me) around the corner from PW.

Did you take the free tickets? I think a free Robyn show wouldn’t be a bad thing…..

The TV almost seemed to be taunting us, like “you could have stayed home to see this.” The violin player was even wearing the same dress. However, we told the TV. We turned it off because it had been such a good show to see in person.
