Apryl dislikes plastic bags. If you know her, you know this to be true. One of her favorite companies is the Chicago company, Reusable Bags, which provides an alternative to the wasteful plastic bag. Think about it, nearly everywhere you go to spend your money, you’re more than likely coming back with a plastic bag. And there doesn’t seem to be worse offender than the grocery store. Well, Apryl bought us our own reusable bags which we take everywhere, especially the grocery store. Some groceries are starting to get the message on how damaging plastic bags are to our environment. Dominicks, which is where we typically get our groceries, sell their own reusable bags. I’ve even purchased a few so that I could keep them in my car. Strack & Van Til, another grocery store we occasionally shop at, credits you a quarter for each reusable bag that you use at check out. Still, it’s obvious that the general population or most businesses haven’t caught on. A common reaction: “Are you sure you don’t want a bag?”
Well, it looks like Chicago is ready to do something about such wastefulness. Well, at least two aldermen are, as they are proposing an ordinance that would require any store that has five or more stores to provide not only reusable bags for sale, but also a recycle bin for used plastic bags. Hopefully, this will pass without any troubles. Here’s the full story. Also, check out the 45 comments sparked by the story.
Apryl/Hayden-I bought 20 reuseable bags about three months ago and gave some to Ashley, Paige and Grandma and kept three for myself-Dad

So I think San Fransisco was on the right track when they outlawed plastic grocery bags altogether! Currently Whole Foods sells reusable bags made out of recycled water bottles for $1. Also check this out http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/pressroom/pr_01-22-08.html

Even Kroger now sells reusable bags for $0.99 for regular ones and $2.99 for insulated ones. And some of their stores are also offering a bag credit. I doubt their Memphis stores have jumped on that bandwagon yet, but who knows?
Yay for everyone using reusable bags! We have at least 12 now, and I use them all the time, not just for shopping, like when we go to the library or on trips. They are fabulous. I especially love the ones that fold into a tiny attached sack and the ones with long and short handles, available in hemp recycled cotton, and recycled plastic containers. I haven’t tried the produce bags yet. I need to.

Liam’s parents gave me a reusable bag for Christmas 2006 (the year I met them). I love it. It is also pink and says ‘shop local’ on it. Sometime I get complements.

It brings a smile to Apryl’s face when she gets compliments about her bags.

I remember your cute pink bag, Caroline. It appears in a photo from the last girls’ night we had before you left. See here.
