Dolly in the Windy City

Chicago Theatre

On Friday, Apryl and I went to see Dolly Parton at the Chicago Theatre, which was one of Apryl’s Christmas presents. Dolly had to cancel the original date for the show, so Friday was a long time a coming. Anyway, the Chicago Theatre was quite amazing. It reminded both of us of the Orpheum back home, only twice as big. The first part of the concert contained a lot of her country numbers and stories of her childhood. After a short intermission, the second part was filled with more of her poppy type of hits. Even though I enjoyed the country side of the concert the best, it can be said that Dolly never failed to entertain. And if she hadn’t made it as a musician, I believe she sure would have made it as a comedian. I’ll let Apryl tell you more if she likes, but I will recall several of the songs Dolly performed:

Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, Two Doors Down, Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That, Thank God I’m A Country “Girl,” 9 to 5, Theme for Steel Magnolias (rejected by the producers), Backwoods Barbie, Jesus & Gravity, Better Get To Livin’, Islands in the Stream, and I Will Always Love You.

  2. I am disappointed that you didn’t get t-shirts with Dolly’s face on them!

  3. Please, Steph, like you would have spent $30 on a t-shirt! And Caroline, you will have to come up for some show or another once you’re back in the States. Because you’ll be totally rich when you’re a student again.

  4. That is awesome, I LOVE Dolly. Whenever I watch videos of her live performances, I am always kinda surprised by how funny she is. Then she sings her ass off. Yeah, I’m “J” as well. Merry Christmas.

  5. Glad you got a break from school. It makes me want to go buy a CD by Dolly so I can load it on my I-Pod.

Sure am enjoying my Christmas gift while I scan. Especially liked ACDC- “Thunderstruck” yesterday.

  6. I think that the ACDC was accidentally loaded when your iPod was connected to Adam’s computer. But if it has a beat, I’m sure you were enjoying it.

  7. Well, Vanessa, unfortunately I can’t bring Dolly back. But you and Caroline could take a girls trip up here sometime to see some other amazing performer. If you can, bring Brett too so that Hayden has someone to play with. They could sleep in a tent in the backyard or stay at the local B&B together if Brett is too allergic to Eva to sleep in the apartment.

  8. The White Sox take to the field to the blast of “Thunderstruck”!

  9. Hayden,

I guess I will have to become a “Sox” fan. Of course we don’t have cable so don’t know how I will ever watch them play-unless when I come up there you take me to a game.

    Apryl,
    Hi to you also!
