That’s the route we’ll be taking this weekend. After growing up by the Mississippi River, I’ve always wanted to see where it begins and ends. Also since going to Mud Island last year for our “honeymoon” the day after our wedding, we’ve talked about visiting different parts of Ole Man River. I can’t wait to dip my toes in the start. I wonder how long it will take that same water to get to Memphis.

Itasca is beautiful…and there is actually a spot (usually depending on how high the water is) where you can jump across the Mississippi River!
My family used to go to a lake there, White Earth Lake, which is about 40 min from the mouth of the Mississippi every year for like 17 years. Northern Minnesota is gorgeous. Have fun!

We weren’t able to jump across the river, though there were sections where it looked like you might have a fighting chance. Of course, if you were to jump from one side to the other you would find yourself landing in an overgrowth of thickets. Ouch.
