Even though I haven’t seen any of these films, I still say let the competition begin! For your own printable ballot, click here.

The Sound of the L

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Ever wonder what those CTA conductor annoucements sound like? Wonder no more, because a sound library of audio samples from the “L” are available at You can also check out video from the past including a clip from when the trains’ color was green like they were on the credits of Good Times. There’s even a section that contains jpgs from famous movies scenes that have used the Chicago train station as a location.

Tigers 78 – Bulldogs 77 (OT)

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Tonight, I joined fellow University of Memphis alumni for a True Blue Watch Party. I have been meaning to go to one of these gatherings, but something always seems to come up. Well, I picked a good game for my first outing with the group. The Tigers beat Gonzaga by one point in overtime. While I was one of the youngest there, it was still really nice talking to Tiger fans. I thought it was funny that the majority of them were from Chicago and had only gone to school at the U of M (or Memphis State for most). I sat next to a gentleman named Ed Young who was an assistant coach for the 1972-73 Tigers season—the season the Tigers went to the Big Dance! He was very nice and told me about a lot of things to check out in Chicago. Click here to read about the miracle season and see a picture of Young in the team photo.

The sports lounge where me met was also near Jim’s Original Hot Dog, which is a restaurant I always notice when driving Apryl to school because it’s visible from the interstate. The place has been around for 68 years and his highly endorsed by Yelp. Next time I’m in the neighborhood, I’m picking up a dog!

Snow: The Real Deal

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

After yesterday’s accumulation, I realize that I’ve never really experienced an honest to goodness snowfall. This weather has actually had quite an effect on the city causing major problems on the interstate and long delays at the airport. At least we’re not in Upstate New York. My good friend Brian will be in the Chicago area at the end of the week for business. I hope that all this snow doesn’t prevent him from making it out to our neighborhood.

Snow Day? How about a Winter Storm!

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Follow the link for proof that kids in Chicago can have a snow day. Unfortunately, Apryl’s school is no where to be found on the list. The Winter Storm continues…

Snow will continue to intensify through the afternoon. As of late
this morning… reports indicated 2 to 4 inches of snow had fallen
across the area. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected
this afternoon and evening… resulting in storm total snowfall of
4 to 8 inches. The snow will decrease in intensity late this
evening. Snow combined with northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph along
with higher gusts will produce considerable blowing and drifting
snow and dangerous travel conditions.

Oh boy…

Six Months = 182.621099 Days

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Today marks our 6th month anniversary! Once Apryl gets back from school, we’ll probably celebrate by keeping warm on the couch and watching really bad TV. Ah, special occasions!

Love you Apryl!

Pluggin’ Away

Friday, February 9th, 2007

I’ve had some request to start up my Album of the Week posts like I had on The Music Lovers. Well, I’m still deciding against that idea for this site, but I have started the feature back up on the above mentioned blog. Right now, I’m starting with my favorite albums of January, and then, post weekly starting next week. And as well, you can check out the occasional music review from me here. Okay, enough plugging.

Bad Weather Bad

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

Take a look (if you dare) at the effects this Chicago weather has had on my once beautiful hand. At least, the lows are expected to get back into double digits at the start of next week.

(BTW, I usually do wear gloves outside, unless of course, I’m trying to gross someone out.)
